The smart but naughty farmhands son's eternal mischief, pranks and disobedience drive his elders (especially teachers, family and father's grumpy employer, a rich farmer, but also neighbors and even the kind curate whose liturgical server he is) and classmates to despair in a time when a boy's punishment was still inevitable, swift and often severe; thus when his mother catches him skinny dipping she takes all his clothes home, forcing him to a long walk of shame, dreading dad's wrath all the way.  A coming of age drama.
Dubravka, a teenage girl who lives in a resort town by the Black Sea, approaches adolescence.
This is an excellent movie, and a very underrated too. First, it is the kind of serious approaching-adolescence stories that are funny, touching, sometimes troubling and, overall, the most memorable. Dubravka is a wild, boyish Crimean girl ( the movie is beautifully filmed and presumably set on the Crimean coast, Soviet-era southern paradise) who is struggling not to lose her childhood dreams and illusions while discovering the adult world that is so often mean, cruel and unfair. Yet some things, like friendship, endure beyond. The movie's strong is in staying a children's movie while frankly showing adult and family problems. Some scenes are very powerful. Recommended this movie to anyone, but notably to pre-teens, especially girls. But although it tackles issues that are still valid, it is old and romantic, and being set in the Soviet Union might not be understood by all.

 Maria suffers from Alzheimer's disease.  Small and twitchy 13-year-old Markus, "Mouse" to his classmates, hates being short. His best friend Sigmund, who is unusually tall and muscular, also feels the odd man out. One day they are on a school-sponsored mountain hike when the boys start talking about the world's most sexy actresses. Their favorites are Sharon Stone, Melanie Griffith and voluptuous Diana Mortensen, an actress unknown to Markus. The others explain that she is a Norwegian actress who has found success in the Hollywood-produced soap Money and Power and according to the fanzines is dating Robert DeNiro. They then show him a nude picture of Diana and Markus falls head-over-heels in love. On a whim, Markus decides to write Mortensen. Thinking she wouldn't bother responding to someone so young, he pretends he is a wealthy millionaire. Sure enough she writes back and a friendship results. Markus couldn't be happier until he learns that she has been released from the show and is planning to return to Norway. To make matters worse, she is just dying to meet him. This bittersweet coming-of-age comedy is primarily aimed at a younger audience.
